Long Layers with Graduation: Video Hair Tutorial

Watch my video hair tutorial…..

A Long Layered haircut looks good on just about anyone.  The length is great for when you want to put it up or wear it down in beautiful sultry like waves.

In some cases, however, the hair is so thick that there just seems to be too much hair and the weight of it takes over.  One way to take care of this is to add some graduation in the back.  Adding some layers closer to the head will decrease unwanted heaviness and bulk.

Low-Lights and Highlights on an All Over Golden Blonde Hair Color: Video Hair Tutorial

Watch my Video Hair Tutorial to see how I did Highlights and Low-lights with Color In Between…..

Learning how to apply an all over color in between foils was hard for me to learn at first.....

Not only do have to know how to foil hair...You have to know how to lock in your foils so they stay in tact as you move them out of the way to apply your all over color.

First, you apply all of your foils.  I usually leave the low-lights folded longer and my highlights folded shorter so I can keep track of which is which.  I also make sure that my foils a folded tight and secure so will not move while I'm applying the all over color.

Then you apply all the all over color in-between the foils.   You do this just like you would a apply regular all over color you simply move the foils out of the way as you go along.

You can use this technique with any hair color you choose.  In this situation I wanted to achieve a Golden Blonde Hair Color with lots of dimension.  Adding highlights and/or low-lights can make any all over hair color look more professional.  In this case it broke up the gold in the hair and left it a more attractive golden blonde....not to gold or brassy.

It can be a big mess if your not careful.  Working in a pattern will help you from getting lost in the hair.

Short Layered Haircut, Pixie-cut "Hair Tutorial" Razored and Textured

Watch my video tutorial to see how I did this haircut.....

A "Pixie-cut" is another name for a short layered haircut.  The main idea is the back and sides are cropped short while the top of the hair may or may not stay a little longer.  So there are many, many different versions of this haircut.

Women of all ages can wear this look.  This is also flattering hairstyle for all facial shapes and easy to take care of.

In this tutorial the layers are short, but not too short, so this is a somewhat of "Longer version" of the Pixie-cut.

"Sulta's 'the seductress' Flat Iron" Review with How to Get Wavy, Sultry Curls Hair Tutorial

Watch my video hair tutorial to see how I got these Sultry Curls.....

I recently received "the suductress" 1 inch flat iron courtesy of Sultra.   This iron has gotten a lot of hype lately, so I was really looking forward to trying it out myself.  Let me tell you this is a really nice iron.  I just love working with it.
When I first started to blow-dry my hair, I turned the iron on, as I usually do to give it some time to heat up.  Then 4 seconds later...beep beep..it was already hot.  It really does have a rapid heat up time.
I was impresses by the fine, medium, and thick hair settings.  The thicker your hair, the hotter the iron will get...so less hair damage.
The high gloss coating is not just pretty to look at, but is a very practical.  The iron just glides around the hair when you are using it for waves and curls and does not pull or drag on the hair.
As a professional I can really appreciate the 9 foot swivel cord, because then I can work behind the chair without having to turn the chair or have the cord lay in my client's lap.
I really like the 1 inch size plates, because you can do so many things with it.  You can flat iron it straight, curl it, wave it, flip it, make beachy waves...whatever you like.  It's a good versatile iron for all kinds of hair.

Tint Back with Peek-A-Boo Highlights: Hair Tutorial Video

Watch my Hair Tutorial Video to see how I created this look.....

I love Peek-A-Boo Highlights, they are so much fun and work for all age groups.  It's a great way to add a little something to your hair without going over the top.

In this video I am doing a Tint Back from Blonde to Brown, while adding Peek-A Boo Highlights underneath.

The reason why these highlights are called Peek-A-Boo is because you do not add highlights to the top of your head, you are only adding highlights to the bottom sections.  So the top sections of the hair will lay over the highlights giving it that, "Now you see it now you don't effect."

Caramel Color Partial Highlights on Medium Brown Hair: You Tube Video Tutorial

Watch this hair tutorial video…..

When you think of caramel color... think of the caramel candy:)  It's sort of that dark blonde, light brown hair color with a hint of gold.   Caramel color highlights are nice to apply over darker hair shades.

I would have to say that this has got to be one of the most popular hair color requests that I get from clients.

Caramel highlights are great to put on darker shades, because it blends in well and won't make the highlights look too stripy.

How to Cut a Long Layered Curly Wavy Haircut and Style: Video Tutorial

Watch my Tutorial Video to see how I cut and style this Long Layered Curly Haircut.....

You know what they say, those that have straight hair want curly hair and those with curly hair wish their hair was straight!

When it comes to hair you always want what you don't have.  My hair is perfectly straight and I would love my hair to be curly.  Curly hair is full, bouncy and fun, and always looks good to me.  However cutting curly hair can be a little tricky.

You have to cut without Tension.....

Curly hair is cut the same way you would cut straight hair, except you have to be careful to cut it without any tension.  Curly hair stretches more then straight hair does and it bounces up when it's dry.  If you use too much tension when combing it, the haircut could appear uneven.

How to do an Updo on Curly Hair: Low Bun Style: Pictures and Video Tutorial

Watch my this tutorial video to see how I did this.....

I had the opportunity to do my friends hair for a wedding she was standing up in.  I got to get creative with her long curly hair.  She wanted to make sure that she liked her hair on the wedding day so we did a "Practice do."  This is what I video taped.

I used 'Curls Rock' by: 'Tigi' when it was wet and evenly distributed it throughout the hair.....

I then sectioned the hair with clips and twirled small sections around my fingers to create spiral like curls.....

I blow-dried it with a hair diffuser.....

I put the back part of her hair into 2 ponytails using thick and strong hair bands.....

I pinned everything up else with bobby pins.....

It came out beautiful and it was just how she wanted it!

Bohemian Long and Loose French Braid: Hair Tutorial Video

Watch my Hair Tutorial Video to see how to do this Long and loose braid.....

This Long and loose french braid can be worn casual or it can be dressed up.  This particular braid is a great hairstyle for someone with really long hair.

The main idea is when you are doing this french braid, you braid as normal except that you hold it away from the head and braid down on an angle.  That way it won't be too tight and you'll get an asymmetrical look out of it.

How to do a Full Head of Blonde Highlights on Light Brown Hair with Foils (Hair Tutorial)

Watch my Hair Tutorial Video to see how to do a Full Head of Blonde Highlights with Foils.....

Light brown hair is the perfect base for blonde highlights.  It looks natural and the upkeep is minimal.  It is a great way to brighten a hair color that has the "Dirty dish water" reputation.

When your doing a full head with foils you have to be careful to use the right color formulations so the whole head processes evenly, because it can take a while to apply.  Which could mean that you'll have to remix a couple times during the process.

Jennifer Anniston's 2011 New Haircut: Video Hair Tutorial

Watch my Tutorial Video to see how I do this haircut.....

I have blogged before that I really liked Jennifer's new haircut.  She has been a trend setter for years and  lots of clients now asking for her new haircut.

When I first started doing hair in the 90's almost everyone that sat in my chair asked for the girl from "Friends" haircut.  It was a cute, textured, layered, sort of a shag haircut that could be worn at all different lengths, but looked best at about the shoulders.  I remember taking a class on this particular haircut and that's when I first started learning how to work with a razor.

This was a time when perms and big hair were going out and straight, textured, and wispy hair was coming in.  I had to learn how to round brush with a blow-dryer instead of scrunching with a diffuser.  This was quite a challenge for me after years of fried out, big, permed hair!

Jennifer Anniston's new 2011 haircut could be another trend setter.....

This wispy, asymmetrical haircut frames the face so nicely.  It's long enough to put up when needed.....

It's trendy, but yet not too risky.....

How to do a Kids Haircut: Little Boys Clipper Cut: Clipper Over Comb

Watch my Tutorial Video to see how I cut Joey's hair.....

Every Summer I cut Joey's hair pretty short.  He's 7 years old and pretty active, so keeping it short in the warmer weather helps keep him cool.

I used the clippers on the sides and back of his hair.  Next, I cut the top of his hair with scissors.   Then, I  blended everything with thinning shears in end.

Thanks Joey!

How to do a Clarifying Treatment: Recipe to Get Your Hair Shiny

This is a really good Clarifying Treatment for left over Shampoo Residue, Product Build Up and even Chlorine.

Even the best of shampoos leave behind a residue that leaves your hair looking dull and lifeless.  Products also leave behind a build up that can take all the shine out of your hair.  Chlorine from the swimming pools make your hair feel gummy and dry.

A good Clarifying Treatment is a cure all to all of these issues....

How to do a clarifying treatment......
You will need.....

-Clarifying Shampoo
-Baking soda
-4 cups of
  white distilled vinegar
-Dish soap
- Deep conditioner

In a bowl mix some about 1/4 clarifying shampoo with about 2T baking soda.....

   1.  Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo...rinse

   2.  Shampoo with your "Clarifying shampoo and baking soda mixture"...rinse

   3.  Shampoo with dish soap...rinse

   4.  Rinse again with vinegar

   5.  Deep condition hair with your conditioner:)

This really does work:)

How to do a Waterfall/Cascade French Braid

Watch my tutorial video.....

The Waterfall French Braid is another one of my favorite braids.

It's a quick and easy way to dress up your hair into a half up half down hair style for almost any sort of occasion.

It is very similar to a regular french braid, but instead of adding the bottom section, you drop it it out.  It's tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite simple.

Asymmetrical Updo with a Waterfall Braided Twist

Watch my Hair Tutorial Video to see how I did this.....

I wanted to do something a little different for my Daughter's dance recital hair.  I Love anything asymmetrical and a braid worked into it is even better.  I started off with a side pony tail and worked in a mini waterfall braid by twisting it in.  I pulled out her feather extensions, to show them off.  Then it was pinned and curled.....  I just Love the way it came out:)))

How to Apply Feather Hair Extensions into Your Own Hair

Watch my tutorial video to see how I applied feather extensions into my own hair.....

I am really into Feathers right now!  I just added 3 into my own hair.  I chose a Brown/Copper color, because I liked the way it looked in my Blonde hair.

It's really an easy way to add highlights and a little flair to your hair without causing any permanent damage.

You can be subtle with you feathers, by staying closer to your hair color.

You can also get more bold with your feathers by adding all sorts of different colors....

Kate Middleton Inspired: Half Up Half Down Hairstyle

Watch this tutorial video to see how I styled my friends hair.....

I did my friends hair for a wedding she was standing up in.  She wanted big wavy curls, something simple, yet elegant.

I couldn't help but to think of Kate Middleton and the way she had it styled for her wedding to the Prince!

Kate is naturally classy and elegant on her own, but on her wedding day, she was breathtaking.  It was not how much she did, but how she did it.  Less is more when you are dealing with natural beauty ;)

Thanks Annie!

Mens Clipper Cut: Clipper Over Comb: Hair Tutorial

Watch this video hair tutorial…..

Learning how to work with clippers can be tricky.  It's probably best to start off using the guards and then move on to using the clipper over comb technique once you are comfortable with them.

Many men like the No Hassle of a short clipper cut.  Who can blame them..really!

I did a hair tutorial on how to do a mens clipper cut on my husband, Alan.  I think he was nervous...Watch until the end for the 'Video Blooper," ha ha:)

How to Color Your Hair a FIRE RED: Bright and Vibrant

For all the details watch my tutorial video.....

I got the opportunity to do a really fun Red hair color.   It perfectly complimented her recent short and spiky haircut.

She had recently colored her own hair a ginger-like color brown, so first we did a "Bleach shampoo cap" to get the old color out.  We also wanted to lighten it up so the Red color would take.  A bleach shampoo cap is a great way to lighten your hair up before a bright color like this.

We next applied the Red hair color.
