Renting a Salon Chair; The Next Chapter in my Career

After working from home for 7 years, I have recently relocated to a salon.  This was a well thought out process.  I loved working from home.  You can't beat the convenience.  I never had to pay a babysitter, because I was home.   Over the years I was able to build a great clientele and I enjoyed getting to know all my clients on such a personal level as I invited them into my home.  I truly love all my clients and I consider them all my friends.

The downside about working from home is that I never left my house....  Sure I would run errands and such, but I missed getting out of the house to go to work.   I missed working with other people in the industry.   As my business and my clientele grew, my space really wasn't made for a lot of traffic.   I needed to get into a more commercial space.  It was time.

I decided that renting a chair would be the way to go.  After working for myself for so many years, I knew that working for someone else would be very hard.  I also knew that I didn't want the responsibility of owning a salon and having employees.  Renting a chair gives you the best of both worlds.  You are basically your own boss in salon atmosphere.

I needed to find somewhere around my area, because I knew I needed to stay close.  I wanted to stay in Wheaton to keep it convenient for my clientele.  I wanted to keep all my clients and I didn't want location to get in the way of that.  I narrowed it down to a few places and finally decided on Lotus Salon and Spa Inc.  I knew as soon as I walked in the door that this was the right place.  It was small, quaint and to me, a home away from home.   I was able to meet 2 of the girls I would be working with and they were both awesome.  I knew I would get along with them right away.

Renting a chair was no different then what I was used to already.  I make my own appointments, I set my own hours and I buy all my own products and equipment.  The big major change for me and my clients is the location.  It will be a little bit of an adjustment.  However I know that they will all enjoy the new place.

I work Weddings On-location over the weekends, so Saturdays and Sundays were out.  I decided on a part time chair rental Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  I am totally flexible on those days, but now I actually have a set schedule or at least set days.  After literally working 7 days a week for years, I am really looking forward to a couple of days off :)

I think renting a chair is a great option for the seasoned stylist.  So far I'm loving it and I'm looking forward to this next chapter in my Career :)
